Mohamed Salah says he's "far away" from a new Liverpool deal as his contract nears expiry, but his focus remains on winning the Premier League with the Reds.

Mohamed Salah Admits New Liverpool Contract Talks Are "Far Away"

Liverpool's Mohamed Salah has cast fresh doubt over his future at Anfield, revealing he’s still “far away” from signing a new deal. Despite netting a goal and assisting twice in the Reds’ emphatic 5-0 victory over West Ham, the 32-year-old’s future remains a major talking point as his contract edges closer to its expiration.

Salah’s Contract Situation

Salah’s current deal runs out on June 30, and starting this Wednesday (January 1), he’ll be free to negotiate with non-English clubs about a potential free transfer. Yet, the Egyptian superstar insists his priority remains helping Liverpool secure the Premier League title.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Salah said:

“No, we are far away from that [contract talks], and I don’t want to put anything in the media. The only thing on my mind is I want Liverpool to win the league, and I want to be part of that.

“I will do my best for the team to win the trophy. There are a few other teams catching up with us, and we need to stay focused, stay humble, and go again.”

Van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold in the Same Boat

Salah isn’t the only Liverpool star with an uncertain future. Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are also entering the final six months of their contracts. While speculation about their futures grows, manager Arne Slot remains unfazed by the possibility of his key players talking to other clubs.

“I think I have a lot of control over what they do—on the pitch and in meetings with me,” Slot said. “But their private lives? That’s out of my hands.

“What I do know is they’re all delivering on the pitch. Virgil, Trent, and Mo bring so much to this team. I’m not worried.”

Salah’s Spectacular Form

While contract discussions may be up in the air, Salah’s performances remain anything but. Against West Ham , he registered his 17th Premier League goal and 13th assist of the season, further cementing his status as one of the league’s best.

Slot didn’t hold back in his praise for the forward, calling him “extraordinary.”
“The word extraordinary gets thrown around, but Mo truly deserves it,” said Slot. “Not just for the last six months, but for the last eight years.

“When Mo scores, there’s usually a team effort leading up to it. But when you put Mo in those positions, he’s exceptional.”

January Transfers?

As the January transfer window looms, questions about Liverpool’s plans have cropped up. Slot, however, is happy with his squad.
“I said this six months ago, and people thought I was crazy,” Slot explained. “But the players have proven the faith we’ve shown in them was well placed.”

With Liverpool eight points clear at the top of the Premier League, the focus remains firmly on maintaining their dominance. However, the uncertainty surrounding Salah, Van Dijk, and Alexander-Arnold will undoubtedly keep fans on edge as the season unfolds.
