Mbappe rejects Al-Hilal’s record €700M deal, favoring Real Madrid. Despite PSG’s sale listing, he refuses talks, awaiting a free transfer in 2024.

Mbappe Declines Saudi Pro League Move

Kylian Mbappe has officially rejected a staggering contract offer from Saudi club Al-Hilal, refusing to even meet with their delegation in Paris. The Saudi club had hoped to negotiate a world-record transfer from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), but the French star’s camp, led by his mother Fayza Lamari, declined any discussions. (L'Equipe)

Al-Hilal’s Ambitious Pursuit of Mbappe

A Saudi delegation was in Paris on Wednesday to finalize the signing of FC Zenit winger Malcom. They intended to take advantage of the trip to present their proposal to Mbappe, but his entourage made it clear that moving to the Middle East was never an option. (L'Equipe)

This latest development supports speculation that Mbappe is holding out until his PSG contract expires on June 30, 2024, to facilitate a free transfer to Real Madrid next year.

World-Record Bid Rejected

According to AFP, Al-Hilal had been granted permission to negotiate with Mbappe after submitting a record-breaking €300 million ($331 million) bid for the 24-year-old World Cup winner. This offer would have shattered Neymar’s €222 million ($245 million) transfer record from 2017 when PSG activated his Barcelona release clause.

In addition to the massive transfer fee, Mbappe was reportedly offered an astronomical €200 million ($221 million) per season on a two-year contract, bringing the total deal value to an unprecedented €700 million ($773 million). Such figures would have secured Mbappe the top spot on Forbes' list of The World's Highest-Paid Athletes for at least two consecutive years.

Contract Disagreements Lead to Rejection

Despite the lucrative offer, negotiations between Mbappe’s camp and Al-Hilal did not progress. Reports suggest that:

  • Al-Hilal wanted Mbappe to commit to a two-year stay in the Saudi Pro League.

  • Mbappe preferred a one-year deal before making a move to Real Madrid.

  • The French star sought a larger share of the €700 million package, aiming for a €500 million ($552 million) payout, while PSG would receive a reduced €200 million ($221 million) sum. (AS)

L'Equipe confirms that neither party reached the negotiation table, further solidifying the likelihood of Mbappe being sidelined by PSG for the upcoming season unless Real Madrid intervenes before the transfer window closes.

Real Madrid Remains Mbappe’s Priority

Sky Sports reports that Real Madrid may submit a last-minute bid of at least €150 million ($166 million) to tempt PSG into selling their star player rather than losing him on a free transfer next summer.

By rejecting Al-Hilal—just as Lionel Messi did before choosing Inter Miami—Mbappe reinforces his commitment to playing at the highest level. His decision suggests he values sporting ambitions over financial incentives, with a clear preference for joining the 14-time Champions League winners, Real Madrid.
