Man Utd close to selling Garnacho to Napoli for €70m; talks ongoing as Lecce's Patrick Dorgu eyed as replacement

The January window is heating up at Man Utd and Alejandro Garnacho could be leaving Old Trafford. The 20-year-old Argentine winger is reported to be close to joining the Serie A leaders Napoli, with the Italian side coming back to the table with a better offer.

Napoli Push Hard for Garnacho

Napoli , currently riding high with Antonio Conte, would love to land Garnacho in place of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. The Italians had one offer rejected, but were willing to pay €60 million for the Argentina international, as reported by Corriere dello Sport.

Man Utd, however, remain in no doubt about their €70m valuation, with negotiations between the two sides expected to resume in the coming hours. It’s "on the boil," as it were, and given the good working relationship between the two clubs – Napoli have already completed the signing of Scott McTominay earlier this season – there is reason to believe it will happen.

McTominay, the latest signing from Napoli, has been an enigma in Serie A, scoring again in Napoli’s shock 3-2 win over Atalanta on Saturday.

With Garnacho’s departure nigh Man Utd are already on a roll in their pursuit of a replacement. They are in talks with Lecce over Patrick Dorgu , a potential left-back who could also play as a wing-back – a position United had been looking to beef up.

Negotiations, says The Athletic’s David Ornstein, are progressing. He tweeted:

"Man Utd are on the verge of a loan deal for left back Patrick Dorgu from Lecce. "There is no agreement at this stage, but talks are underway for the Danish international."

Italy says this deal could be finalized in the middle of the week. The 20-year-old Denmark international has an Estimated Transfer Value of €17m and has been linked with Chelsea and Napoli. But Napoli’s interest seems to have diminished, leaving the door open for United to complete the transaction.

Wolves’ Rayan Ait-Nouri Linked With United’s Radar

United are reportedly keeping options open and have also been linked with Wolves’ Rayan Ait-Nouri. However, with an asking price of well over €50m, the Frenchman’s January exit is far from certain.

The Dorgu transfer, should it come about, would provide Erik ten Hag with a exciting young talent to play both defensive and attacking left-back roles.

Garnacho to Napoli – A Double Treat?

If Garnacho ends up going to Italy, that would work for both sides. Napoli would receive a young winger with a great future, and United could use the money to fill holes in their squad.

Once the January window opens up we’ll all be keeping an eye on these deals. Will Garnacho become the next Man Utd player to glow in Serie A, or is United’s €70m asking price the biggest obstacle? Time will tell.
