Ruben Amorim wants Man Utd to challenge for the Premier League title starting next season, rejecting the idea of a slow, multi-year rebuild.

New Manager Refuses to Accept Long-Term Rebuild Timeline

Incoming Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has made it clear that he wants the club to challenge for the Premier League title as early as next season, rejecting the idea that the rebuild will take several years.

Despite the club enduring one of its worst campaigns in modern history—potentially finishing in the bottom half of the table for the first time since 1990—Amorim remains confident and ambitious.

United on Course for Historic Low Finish

Manchester United are in danger of recording their lowest-ever Premier League finish in the post-1992 era. After Tuesday’s defeat to Nottingham Forest, a spot lower than 13th would mark their worst league position since 1974, when they were relegated from the top flight.

With instability both on and off the pitch, the club is under pressure to return to winning ways. However, Amorim is not asking for patience.

"We Don't Have Four Years" – Amorim Wants Immediate Change

“I don’t want to think we need a lot of years to be competitive,” Amorim told reporters this week. “That’s not how I manage. It’s not in me. That’s why I’m putting pressure on myself.”

He acknowledged that while United may not be the top title contender in the next year or two, he expects significant improvement starting next season.

Reading between the lines, Amorim appears to be eyeing the 2027/28 season as the year United should truly contend for the league title—a vision that aligns with executive plans to secure the club’s 21st league title in time for its 150th anniversary.

Squad Rebuild Underway, Big Signings Expected

While a squad overhaul is needed to align with Amorim’s tactical system, the Portuguese coach emphasized the urgency of change. “We are suffering a lot now so that next year is much better,” he added.

Amorim stressed he won’t be the kind of manager who asks for multiple seasons to build. Instead, he wants the team to improve rapidly, targeting key signings and focusing on maximizing current squad strengths.

“I want to use this club’s power to bring in one or two big players. We must start next season with the ambition to be much better. This is a massive club—I want everyone here to feel that pressure.”
